Happy Saturday

Good morning! Well for some of you it may not be starting out so well, after being out all night. For me it has started rather early (4 am) as per every day this week, but last night I got the best nights sleep I have had in a long time and today I feel refreshed.

Last weekend was the opening of the season at The Big Tin Cotton Gin and we had a blast. I met so many new wonderful people, saw a few of my awesome customers from last season, and made some new friends.

We sold quite a bit, at least enough to cover our booth rent and a little bit of the cost for product. I never really make a profit off my crafts at these shows, but that is alright as long as I can make enough to cover my booth rent. My payment is meeting the people that purchase my items and hearing their stories of who they intend to give them to, and why.

I have also gotten many good ideas from customers as to how I can improve items or change them up for different occasions or events. There have been many Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators that I have met and even exchanged ideas with (it is always awesome to meet a fellow Demonstrator).

As you can see it really was a very productive weekend and I am so looking forward to the next show November 16 -18, 2018.

This whole last week has been crazy with my husbands new job hours, so my schedule has been totally thrown off kilter. So the next week and a half I will be working my little fingers to the bones getting ready for the next show.

Please excuse me for not posting very often during show season, but I really am busy working about 18-20 hours a day seven days a week in between shows just prepping and making new items.

I will be steaming me working on stuff over on my twitch channel if you would like to come chat with me or you can watch my YouTube videos as well.

Thank you for your support and I hope that you have a wonderful Saturday doing whatever it is that you have planned for the day.

P..S. Yes, short but sweet and straight to the point. Thank you for noticing.

Santa’s Sled

Christmas in July is almost over and I still have many more projects that I need to complete for The Big Tin Cotton Gin Vintage and Repurposed Market that starts October 19 – 21, 2018. But a couple days ago I was taking a break from working on my own projects and going through Pinterest, and saw this cute little Santa Sled project. So I had to stop what I was doing and try it, because I thought that this would be something fun for my card class ladies to make. I will let you know later their response, but I am sure they will like it too.

Now take a look at this tutorial of my version of the little Santa Sled with hidden compartment and then scroll down for more info and the link to Sandra’s website.

So that everyone knows, this was not my original idea. I would like to give credit to Sandra Ronald at Art Paper Crafters for the idea, and thank her for sharing her video with all of us. Be sure to go check out her site as well.

MEASUREMENTS:

Base – 8 1/4″ X 3 1/2″ score lengthwise @ 3/4″, 3 3/4″, 4 1/2″, 7 1/2″ turn cardstock widthwise and score @ 3/4″ turn to the opposite side and score @ 3/4″.

Cut each of the lengthwise score lines to the 3/4″ scoreline and at one end cut off the two end tabs to make the closure tab for the lid.

Fold and burnish all the score lines and then glue all the little tabs to the inside of the two long outside tabs to form a box as shown in the video.

For the back of the sled where you attach the Christmas tree and teddy bear, cut a piece of cardstock @ 3″ X 2″ and for a decorative top to the back piece I used a tag topper framelit I had but you can use any kind of decorative punch, framelit, die or what ever you have to add a little character to the back of your sleigh.

DSCN0738

I used the Santa’s Sleigh stamp set and framelits from Stampin’ UP! They are no longer available in the 2018-2019 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. But this idea could also be used with the Ready For Christmas Stamp Set and Christmas Staircase Thinlits Dies which is on page 102 of the 2018-2019 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.

If you are interested in receiving one of these Santa Sleigh kits I will be giving away three of them, along with the pattern for the “hidden compartment” box,  to the first three people who leave a comment below saying “Hello”.

Thank you for stopping by and hope to see you back here soon.

Show and Tell

I don’t want to waste your time, so I will get strait to the point. This is a quick video about the Junk Journal that I was working on today. If you are not interested don’t watch, if you are interested then please enjoy!

This has become my new passion and I have been enjoying the process, it is very therapeutic. The fact that the items I use are being recycled and/or repurposed also makes me feel good about making these journals. I love vintage so I think that is why making these journals has struck a cord with me, because I get to play with old stuff and make something useful and beautiful out of them.

There are many talented Junk Journal artists out there that I have gotten my inspiration from over the last couple of months, but the few that I keep returning to the most are listed below. If you are at all intimidated by making a junk journal then go watch these ladies and their process they make it so simple and have fun while show you the steps they take. I have learned a lot from them and still go back and watch their old and new videos for inspiration. Be sure to check them out.

Little Piggy Wiper Card

Isn’t this the cutest card? This stamp set is my most favorite stamp set that I have currently and I waited a whole year to get it, so worth the wait.

The design is not my design I actually got this from Kay Kalthoff at Stamping to Share . I would like to thank Kay for sharing her video and inspiring me to make this card and share it with all of you. So without further ado here is the video.

This Little Piggy Wiper Card

Card base – 6 3/4″ X 4 1/4″ (cut 2) score @ 1″, & 1 3/4″

Wiper piece – 3 3/4″ X 1 3/4″

For round pieces first cut two 4″ squares

DSP or decorative paper – 4 3/4″ X 4″

Washi Tape or decorative paper strip for each side piece that you hold on to.

Dimensionals to pop up the little piggy on the front.

For this card I used This Little Piggy stamp set on page 33 in the 2018 – 2019 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.

I also used Blushing Bride cardstock (which can be found on page 186 of the annual catalog) for the base of the card and for each of little piggy’s that I fussy cut.

Adhesive’s – Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

That pretty much sums it up! If you have any questions or need help placing your order please contact me I would love to have your business or if you have a Demonstrator please contact them to help you with your order.

Ok, I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and that you try making one of these cards because they are really cute.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope that you have a great day!

Junk Journal #2 Flip Through

A few posts back I had showed you pictures of the second junk journal that I made and told you that I would do a flip through for you. Well I finally got around to taping and editing the video, so here it is very raw, I don’t think I will ever get used to being on camera, sorry.  Anyhoo, I hope that you enjoy the little journal flip through.

So what do you think? Well I have good news then, it is for sale in my shop.

Well, this month is almost over and nothing got done around here. Oh, wait I wasn’t really all myself the beginning of the month, but still I should have more done (as far as project wise). I only have a couple more months to go before The Big Tin Cotton Gin opens and I have to have at least six months worth of stuff made and ready to go.

Speaking of making things, I now have a YouTube channel if you would like to go check that out Sheila gingerstreetboutique . I will be posting me crafting, making cards and sharing the goodies I purchase for my crafting. I am going to try to do at least once a week, maybe twice, live videos. So if you want see how disorganized I really am then turn on the YouTube and check out my channel.

So for other news…..

Well, a while back I told you I would keep you updated on my diabetes and it has been a bit since the last update, so here goes. I was doing good with the yoga and eating my three small meals and two snacks every day then I got sick again. I didn’t want to eat because everything upset my stomach, and yoga was out of the question because I had no energy or strength to even get out of bed for a few days. My blood sugar numbers dropped really low (which is called Hypoglycemia) a couple days and that scared me, because I didn’t want to go into a coma.

My husband kept forcing me to eat and kept me hydrated, but he also had to work so while he was away he told the cats to keep an eye on me. LOL… It worked! Every two hours Takara would come wake me up by standing on my chest or right in front of my face and cry then touch my nose with her paw and repeating this over and over until I got up. They say cats are selfish, maybe sometimes but they are also very generous when they know they are loved.

Everything is back to normal again, thank you Lord for getting us through that!

I read this article a while back on the Diabetic Association website that this Dr. wrote about how beneficial a Vegan diet is to diabetics. So I started cutting out meats and eggs from my diet to start, then I got sick. My husband is not a cook, he is a wonderful husband and has many other talents but his cooking is limited to five things. Two  things he is awesome at are omelette’s and scrambled eggs. Yes, you guessed it, I was “forced” to eat a lot of both because he said that I needed my protein. LOL… there went the vegan diet.

Now that things are back to normal and it is summer time, my favorite time of the “food year”. I love all the vegetables and fruit because they remind me of summer. “Summer food” is not as heavy on the stomach and they are more refreshing. This is the perfect time for me to start really practicing this new way of eating. I have a lot more to learn about food and the vegan way of eating, but I am looking forward to cleansing my body and nourishing it with only the good stuff. If this, along with my yoga, will help me get rid of my diabetes for good, then I am all in.

Ok, speaking of yoga it is time for my after noon session, so I must go now but you can stay and look around the shop and I will catch you later.

P.S. Here is an exert from a final interview with Comedian Patrice O’Neal. by Carolyn Butler for Diabetes Forecast.

Tell me about that, about how things have changed?

Well, I’m starting to really feel it now—your body feels achy, your feet hurt, you start getting a little retinopathy, the neuropathy. You just start feeling the effects more.

Nowadays, my diabetes is a hell of a thing. It just affects everything—your bowel movements and sex drive and sexual everything, your feet, your eyes. I’ve got to take fiber all the time now, because my body just doesn’t do what it needs to do, so I have to help it. Some days you feel really good, and then others it weighs you down and takes everything you got to just move. But you do.

[Diabetes] just makes you old—it makes you think old—way before you should be. You think about falling and cutting yourself, about getting bit by a bug, you think about those things. When you’re clipping your toenails you got to be careful, even. I cut my foot last year and I was really scared. I could see where it didn’t heal up a little bit. When you’re young, you just heal up.

If I’m eating right and taking my medication and doing what I have to do and walking every day, I feel good. But diabetes is a thing where it can trick you—it makes you feel like you’re OK, if you’re doing the right thing. But you know you got to do the right thing diligently, so the sugar isn’t truly eating away at your body.

Outside My Comfort Zone

Hello all,

Today I just wanted to share with you what I have been up to for the last few days. I thought that it would be easier for me to do a video walk through first, and then list all the materials and the process I used in creating this project. It’s a short video, so please enjoy and let me know what you think.

This Junk Journal was made using a Jell-O box, paper bag, scrap paper, handmade embellishments, scraps of fabric, ribbon, staples, glue, time, love and imagination.

Step By Step

  1. I opened up the Jell-O box and cut off the top and bottom flaps.
  2. Laid the box down on a paper bag and cut around the box leaving about 2″ from the edge of the box so that I could fold it over and cover the inside as well.
  3. I used Tombow Multi-Purpose glue and glued down the paper to the front of the box first, then folded over the top and bottom pieces to the inside and glued those down and the same to each end.
  4. I took another piece of the paper bag about 1 1/2″ – 2 ” wide and the length of the open box and glued that piece down the center where the two pieces from the top and bottom meet. I did this for extra support and also to cover up the seam.
  5. Then I poked the holes where I wanted to sew in my signatures.
  6. Then I poked the holes in the signatures to match the holes in the cover and began sewing in each signature. Here is where I learned how to sew in my signatures Lolly Palooza.
  7. Added all the clothe tabs.
  8. Filled all the pockets with ephemera.
  9. Decorated and embellished pockets and pages.
  10. Added eyelets and ribbon for closure.

See it’s not really that hard and there aren’t that many steps. I actually found that the decorating and embellishing took me the longest because I kept changing my mind.

So now don’t you feel like trying one of these Junk Journals? Go on, you can do it, clean out your stash and make something beautiful.

I hope that this will inspire you to try something new whether it be a craft, a hobby, a new job, a different type of food, etc.. Whatever it may be that makes you step outside your comfort zone and expand your knowledge.

Life is about learning, changing and growing.

Making Layered Embellishments

Welcome to my first actual crafting tutorial where I am going to be showing you how I make these adorable layered embellishments from my paper, lace, ribbon and cloth scraps, ephemera pieces, and any other left over project pieces.

This is not my original idea I actually got this idea from Jessica Rapp  who has a YouTube channel that I found about a week and a half ago and have been addicted to ever since. She also has an Etsy shop called twosilveroranges where she sells some of the most beautiful junk journals. All her stuff is vintage and vintage looking, so if you like that kind of stuff, like me, then be sure to check her out.

So please enjoy this video and be sure to leave a comment below. I would love to hear from you.

Sorry about the muffled sound and blurriness of the video. I did not realize while I was recording this that I did not have my laptop plugged in and the battery was low, oops!

I would like to make another video when I create my little banner embellishments using my Stampin’ Up stash, stamps and ribbon. Let me know if that is something you might be interested in.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Goodwill and JOANN’s haul

Ok, I have seen YouTube videos of people doing these different “hauls” from all different types of shopping trips and I have really enjoyed seeing the different stuff that people buy. So I thought that I would share with you my haul from our local Goodwill and JOANN’s.

Today’s shopping trip mission was to find some sort of container to hold my scraps for my layered embellishments that I have been making lately. Our first stop was Goodwill because my husband wanted to go look at the books (he likes old art, history and war books) and I thought that would be a great place to find something to store my stuff in. No I did not find anything to store my stuff in, but I did find more stuff to store (go figure)! My husband did not find anything to his liking, so he generously helped me find “stuff”.

We then went to JOANN Fabric right next door so that we could look at the storage containers that they had there. The jewelry storage containers they had were too small for what I needed, so we went to the fabric section and found the large craft storage unit that I did get. So far I love it because it holds all my embellishment making items neatly, plus I got it half off.

Below is the video of my “haul” I made this evening after I got my stuff all put away and organized. I hope that you enjoy this video and if you do and would like to see more videos like this please leave a comment below. I would like to know what you think and love to hear from you so please email me at gingerstreetboutique@gmail.com or sheila@gingerstreetboutique.com or comment below. Enjoy!

Masculine Cards – Class

Everyone knows a guy and that guy has a birthday every year and you need a card to give him. So here in is the class to make a special hand made card just for him, plus have a few extras.

Below is a photo of the cards we will be making in class.

4-4-2018 001

The two cards on the right were inspired by photos I found on Pinterest. The jacket and bow tie card was inspired by Crafty Ola be sure to check out this video she makes 10 different cards and takes you through each step. The blue card on the upper right side was inspired by Ellen Woodbridge she is also an Independent Stampin’ Up Demonstrator and she is from Australia. So if you are in Australia and looking for some classes or need a Demonstrator, Ellen is available and would be a good choice (just check out her work…awesome!).

The other two cards are my design and the bottom left, black and green card, is also a gift card holder.

So if you are interested in more information about this class and to sign up please go to my Stampin’ Up Calendar and follow the instructions there to sign up by April 11, 2018. Or contact me here by leaving a comment or call me at the number listed on my Stampin’ Up Calendar contact page.

I will be posting more classes and workshops on my calendar within the next few days so be sure to check it regularly if you are interested in attending either. If you would like to host a class or workshop to earn hostess rewards from Stampin’ Up and GSB (Ginger Street Boutique) rewards from me, then please contact me for more information and lets get the party started.

In the future (hopefully starting in June) I would like to host a twice a week video tutorial for you to follow at home. I’m not sure if I will post them both on here or if I will do one on here and the other one on YouTube that will be determined once I get a little further along in my process. Either way I will let you all know here when and where you can view the videos, and any other specifics that may pop up in the process.

Thank you all for stopping by and I hope that you have a great rest of your week and weekend.
