First Day of Show

Oh my goodness today was an awesome day! Let me begin by saying today was opening day of The Big Tin Cotton Gin Vintage and Repurposed Market and we had a wonderful turn out. I met some of the most wonderful people and had the best time getting to know my customers, they even gave me some great ideas on future projects so stay tuned.

The weather was just perfect for an October day in Arizona, not too warm but sunny with a light breeze. I woke up refreshed and ready to go at 6:30 am. Fed the cats, packed a lunch, put the roast in the crock pot, checked my blood sugar, ate breakfast, got ready and off we went. We didn’t forget a thing and hit all green lights except the last two, so we were actually an hour early.

It really is so amazing how the event area transforms overnight. We were there Thursday morning setting up and we were able to back our truck right up to our sight and unload everything that’s how empty it is. This morning we show up and there were vendors everywhere around us, it was so cool. I was very good today, I did not leave my booth and walk around although I was very tempted.

So I took some pictures of my booth to share with you along with some pictures of the items that I had at the show. Enjoy!

So if you are in Queen Creek on Sat. Oct. 20, 2018 then be sure to stop by to check out all the great gift item, home decor items, the awesome fudge from the fudge lady, beautiful handmade indoor/outdoor wooden benches and tables, lots of awesome vintage items and so much more. Please be sure to stop by my booth to say hi, I would love to see you. We will be open from 9:30 am to 4 pm, and Sunday we will be open from 9:30 am to 2 pm.

I am going to be streaming live on Twitch all day Sat., so keep you fingers crossed the internet connection stays strong out there. My Twitch channel is GinStB for those of you that might want to check it out.

Well, I need to get ready for bed and try to sleep a little bit through all this excitement. So until tomorrow….

Obstacles

Today it actually looks like fall, so it has gotten me in the mood to finish up a couple more fall projects for the arts and antiques sale in a couple of weeks. I have been able to get pretty much everything done for the show in the last couple months. I won’t panic until next week when I am down to the last minute, and then it is really going to be freak out time…maybe not!

Things seem to have come together quite well for the show this year, despite all the obstacles that have been thrown in our way . I totally recommend prayer because it really does work!

Speaking of obstacles our most recent one has been saving the life of our 11 year old girl fur baby. The last couple of weeks we have been taking turns feeding her by hand and giving her fresh water all day. We almost lost her and the only way we were able to bring her back to life was to feed her a high protein, high calorie diet.

Two and a half weeks ago we took her to the vets for her follow up on her hyperthyroidism and the medication she was taking for that. They weighed her and she had lost weight again. They wanted to test her urine again and do another blood test, so we agreed.  They took her to the back and when she came out she was all hunkered down and putting her butt on the table, she was traumatized. She didn’t do that the last time we were there 30 days earlier when they did all those same tests. I knew something was wrong from the minute I saw her, but they kept saying she was fine that she might be like that for a few hours, but she would be fine. She wasn’t because for the rest of the day she hid behind the couch and wouldn’t eat or drink anything.

That night she began to bleed out her back end and soaked the bath mat in our bathroom. She wouldn’t even move after that. I called the vets but they were closed and they don’t have an emergency hospital here. We did call the nearest veterinary hospital an hour away and they said to bring her in immediately, but when I told the girl how far away we lived she kinda hesitated. She finally said the best thing is to bring her in but under the circumstances if we could keep her alive until morning and take her to her vet first thing in the morning. I immediately went into survival/emergency mode. No time to fall apart now I had to keep her alive.

Needless to say I was up all night with her giving her water with an eye dropper and praying. She did stop bleeding shortly after we got off the phone with the Veterinary hospital. By morning she hadn’t improved, so I called the vet first thing. The Dr. said her tests showed her liver was shutting down and she had protein in her kidneys. The Vet wanted to put her on an IV, medication, do surgery, more follow ups, more medication, hospitalize her, etc., etc.. I fell apart!

All I could think about as the Dr. was talking is the trauma our fur baby would go through not understanding what was going on. Being away from me she would have gotten worse not better. She is Tonkinese and I belong to her. She doesn’t do well when I am not around her for long periods of time, ever since she was kidnapped a couple years ago. She is very leery around strangers now.

I did not like the idea of surgery or all the medication. We try to give our cats the most natural, healthy food, chemical free environment and healthy lifestyle. We try to live our lives that way, so shouldn’t our cats be living that way as well?

Another big factor is that my husband and are not financially wealthy by all means, and all that would have cost a lot more than we could afford. So, I asked the vet for a more natural alternative and cost effective way to helping our fur baby get back to herself. She said that we would have to feed her foods high in calories and vitamins like kitten food, and feed her like every hour. But she still wanted us to bring our fur baby back in for more tests and to give her a new thyroid medication.

My husband went to PetSmart and asked one of the workers for help. He said that he had three different people assisting him when he told them why he was there. They were so attentive and each person was knowledgeable about the items that they handed him. He came home with a feeding syringe, four cans of kitten food, and this awesome miracle gel food that I believe saved her life. That Booster Gel was the miracle that turned our fur baby around. After only a couple feedings we could already see the life back in her eyes.

The process has been long, but our fur baby is almost back to her old self again. She has been eating on her own for the last week, about every two hours now, and drinking water regularly.

She only gets fresh meat that I cook (or the rotisserie chicken my husband picked up at Sam’s Club) and prepare for her. She still likes her High Calorie Booster Gel as a snack/treat. She gets half a can of kitten food that she munches on all night and she has started to eat a little bit of her crunchy food in the last couple of days.

I will forever be thankful for the employees at PetSmart for helping my husband that morning and treating him with dignity, respect and compassion. Yes, our fur baby is an animal. Anyone who has a pet knows that they are just as much a member of the family as all the humans. So when they get sick, injured or die it still hurts the same as if they were a human family member. Those employees at PetSmart saw that and understood that when they were helping my husband.

Thank you for reading through this long post. I am sorry for not posting anything the last couple weeks, but as you can see we have been kinda preoccupied. Here are some pictures I took of our fur baby yesterday.

Jackson Keeping Watch

It has been a long time since I have done an update on our handsome little man Jackson, so I thought that I would take some pictures of him today and share them with all of you.

This is where Jackson has been all day and still is right now this evening. It’s a good thing I decided to just do stuff on the computer today because there isn’t much room for me to do any crafting up here that’s for sure.

Here is a picture I took of him just now.

DSCN0787

Doesn’t he look so peaceful?

He is a very big boy, not at all fat just muscular and tall. He actually towers over Takara now and is quite a bit stronger than her now. Since she taught him how to fight, he is now ninja fast and sneaky just like her. Sometimes when they are playing she will get mad at him because he hasn’t learned the safe word yet, even though she is yelling it at him very loudly.

We have always given him time outs when he is bad (like picking relentlessly on Takara), or he starts throwing a fit by tearing things up that don’t belong to him (my head bands, hair ties, any of our papers left out) or getting into things he knows he shouldn’t (my house plants, or the trashcans in the house). Usually time out is only five maybe ten minutes but when we open the door he is always just waking up and just looks at us like “what? is it time to come out already, I just went to sleep?”

Now, just recently, I have caught him putting himself in time out a couple times. Once when Takara really walloped him during one of their playing sessions and the second time just the other day when I got on to him and told him he was being a bad boy. The funny thing is I didn’t even realize he had gone to his room until about half an hour later when I was looking for him (because it was so quiet), and there he was sleeping on his blanket by the window.

Maybe this means he has learned that the women of the house rule. Or maybe he is just going through a growth spurt and he needs his rest. But then again my husband has been taking him outside the last few mornings before it gets too hot, so he can air out his furry little britches. That could be why he is a little sluggish in the afternoon.

I think since we have raised all our cats from tiny babies, that they learn our habits, the different tones in our voices (if not actual words we say), they know our routine and they know how to manipulate us to get what they want. So that is why we treat them more like human/kids.

Oh, gotta tell you this, almost forgot.

The other day my husband was going out front so he decided to take Jackson with him. Well, we have a few stray cats that live in our neighborhood that are about the same age as Jackson. A couple of them have decided to take up residence on our front porch during the day because it is shaded and cool (plus we have been putting water out there for them). My husband went around the house to the front door to get the water dish (because he didn’t want Jackson drinking out of it) with Jackson in tow.

As Jackson came around the corner he saw the kittens and they saw him, immediately all the tales got fluffy but no one got aggressive. The one kitten took off and went and hid under the tree and the other one kinda hissed and then got in a submissive position in front of Jackson. Jackson sniffed the other cat for a minute, then he relaxed and then they just sat next to each other by the Oleander Bush/Shrub.

It was so cute to see our boy making friends, but we do not encourage him to hang out with the outside cats. That is why one of is always outside with him and mostly only in the backyard because the kittens (we call them kittens even though they are the same age as Jackson, they are half his size) are in the front yard.

Well Takara is telling me it is time for bed so I guess I should listen. The boy has toddled off somewhere, so this is a good time for me to wrap things up and bid you all a good night until next time.

Santa’s Sled

Christmas in July is almost over and I still have many more projects that I need to complete for The Big Tin Cotton Gin Vintage and Repurposed Market that starts October 19 – 21, 2018. But a couple days ago I was taking a break from working on my own projects and going through Pinterest, and saw this cute little Santa Sled project. So I had to stop what I was doing and try it, because I thought that this would be something fun for my card class ladies to make. I will let you know later their response, but I am sure they will like it too.

Now take a look at this tutorial of my version of the little Santa Sled with hidden compartment and then scroll down for more info and the link to Sandra’s website.

So that everyone knows, this was not my original idea. I would like to give credit to Sandra Ronald at Art Paper Crafters for the idea, and thank her for sharing her video with all of us. Be sure to go check out her site as well.

MEASUREMENTS:

Base – 8 1/4″ X 3 1/2″ score lengthwise @ 3/4″, 3 3/4″, 4 1/2″, 7 1/2″ turn cardstock widthwise and score @ 3/4″ turn to the opposite side and score @ 3/4″.

Cut each of the lengthwise score lines to the 3/4″ scoreline and at one end cut off the two end tabs to make the closure tab for the lid.

Fold and burnish all the score lines and then glue all the little tabs to the inside of the two long outside tabs to form a box as shown in the video.

For the back of the sled where you attach the Christmas tree and teddy bear, cut a piece of cardstock @ 3″ X 2″ and for a decorative top to the back piece I used a tag topper framelit I had but you can use any kind of decorative punch, framelit, die or what ever you have to add a little character to the back of your sleigh.

DSCN0738

I used the Santa’s Sleigh stamp set and framelits from Stampin’ UP! They are no longer available in the 2018-2019 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. But this idea could also be used with the Ready For Christmas Stamp Set and Christmas Staircase Thinlits Dies which is on page 102 of the 2018-2019 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.

If you are interested in receiving one of these Santa Sleigh kits I will be giving away three of them, along with the pattern for the “hidden compartment” box,  to the first three people who leave a comment below saying “Hello”.

Thank you for stopping by and hope to see you back here soon.

Show and Tell

I don’t want to waste your time, so I will get strait to the point. This is a quick video about the Junk Journal that I was working on today. If you are not interested don’t watch, if you are interested then please enjoy!

This has become my new passion and I have been enjoying the process, it is very therapeutic. The fact that the items I use are being recycled and/or repurposed also makes me feel good about making these journals. I love vintage so I think that is why making these journals has struck a cord with me, because I get to play with old stuff and make something useful and beautiful out of them.

There are many talented Junk Journal artists out there that I have gotten my inspiration from over the last couple of months, but the few that I keep returning to the most are listed below. If you are at all intimidated by making a junk journal then go watch these ladies and their process they make it so simple and have fun while show you the steps they take. I have learned a lot from them and still go back and watch their old and new videos for inspiration. Be sure to check them out.

Is It July Already?

Wow, can you believe that July, the seventh month of the year has already begun? Where does the time go?

You know when I was a kid I used to hear all the elderly people (our parents and grandparents) always saying that “it sure seems like the days keep getting shorter, where does the time go?” Back then I never really understood, because I always thought that time was standing still and I would never be grown up fast enough. You know what I mean, all those wonderful things adults got to do like stay up past 8:00 pm, eat candy when ever they wanted, and drive a car. Now I understand and kick myself every time I say those same words because it reminds me that I am getting “older” and now I wish that time would stand still again.

Anyways, July is a very busy month and I would like to share with you what is going on.

First – I would like to share with you the fact that this Wednesday is July 4th, so Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans. Below is an exert from Wikipedia – The Free Encyclopedia and the meaning of this holiday.

Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congressdeclared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and were no longer part of the British Empire.[1] The Congress actually voted to declare independence two days earlier, on July 2.[1]

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworksparadesbarbecuescarnivalsfairspicnicsconcertsbaseball gamesfamily reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the National Day of the United States.[2][3][4]

Spirit_of_'76

Second – I would like to announce that I now have a YouTube channel so that you can watch me live every Wednesday at 11 am starting July 11, 2018. The content will be different every week and you will be able to watch me as I craft. I will also be hosting some contests and give away’s for those who subscribe and follow me on YouTube. I may even do a spontaneous live stream every now and then, so when you subscribe you will be notified when I am online and if you are available you can pop in and watch. Hope to see you all there!

Third – Stampin’ Up! brought back the “buy three get one free” sale that they had last year at this time so if you need to stock up on your DSP this is the time to do it for sure. Or if you would like to just get your hands on some of the new DSP to play with then don’t wait, check out these paper packs available during this sale.

07.01.18_SHAREABLE_DSP_SALE_ENG

Fourth – Another great promotion from Stampin Up! only for the month of July, to all of you that have ever considered having your own business.

During the Stampin’ Pad Family Promotion, which runs July 1 through July 31, all new demonstrators will be able to select a FREE assortment of Classic Stampin’ Pads in addition to their Starter Kit! If you were waiting for the perfect time to join Stampin’ Up!, that time has arrived. Join now, and start your new business off on the right foot!

07.01.2018_SHAREABLE2_INK_PAD_US

Fifth – The July 7, 2018 Card Class is going to be postponed to July 21, 2018 and we will still be making Christmas cards for that class and I will post samples. More details for the class will be posted later.

Well, I think that does it for now and I hope that I didn’t overload you with all this information. If you would like more information or have questions about anything listed above, then please contact me, I will be happy to assist you. Those of you that already have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator then please contact them about the above listed offers if you have any questions.

As always thank you for stopping by and I hope that you enjoyed your visit. Please have a safe and blessed week everyone!

Junk Journal #2 Flip Through

A few posts back I had showed you pictures of the second junk journal that I made and told you that I would do a flip through for you. Well I finally got around to taping and editing the video, so here it is very raw, I don’t think I will ever get used to being on camera, sorry.  Anyhoo, I hope that you enjoy the little journal flip through.

So what do you think? Well I have good news then, it is for sale in my shop.

Well, this month is almost over and nothing got done around here. Oh, wait I wasn’t really all myself the beginning of the month, but still I should have more done (as far as project wise). I only have a couple more months to go before The Big Tin Cotton Gin opens and I have to have at least six months worth of stuff made and ready to go.

Speaking of making things, I now have a YouTube channel if you would like to go check that out Sheila gingerstreetboutique . I will be posting me crafting, making cards and sharing the goodies I purchase for my crafting. I am going to try to do at least once a week, maybe twice, live videos. So if you want see how disorganized I really am then turn on the YouTube and check out my channel.

So for other news…..

Well, a while back I told you I would keep you updated on my diabetes and it has been a bit since the last update, so here goes. I was doing good with the yoga and eating my three small meals and two snacks every day then I got sick again. I didn’t want to eat because everything upset my stomach, and yoga was out of the question because I had no energy or strength to even get out of bed for a few days. My blood sugar numbers dropped really low (which is called Hypoglycemia) a couple days and that scared me, because I didn’t want to go into a coma.

My husband kept forcing me to eat and kept me hydrated, but he also had to work so while he was away he told the cats to keep an eye on me. LOL… It worked! Every two hours Takara would come wake me up by standing on my chest or right in front of my face and cry then touch my nose with her paw and repeating this over and over until I got up. They say cats are selfish, maybe sometimes but they are also very generous when they know they are loved.

Everything is back to normal again, thank you Lord for getting us through that!

I read this article a while back on the Diabetic Association website that this Dr. wrote about how beneficial a Vegan diet is to diabetics. So I started cutting out meats and eggs from my diet to start, then I got sick. My husband is not a cook, he is a wonderful husband and has many other talents but his cooking is limited to five things. Two  things he is awesome at are omelette’s and scrambled eggs. Yes, you guessed it, I was “forced” to eat a lot of both because he said that I needed my protein. LOL… there went the vegan diet.

Now that things are back to normal and it is summer time, my favorite time of the “food year”. I love all the vegetables and fruit because they remind me of summer. “Summer food” is not as heavy on the stomach and they are more refreshing. This is the perfect time for me to start really practicing this new way of eating. I have a lot more to learn about food and the vegan way of eating, but I am looking forward to cleansing my body and nourishing it with only the good stuff. If this, along with my yoga, will help me get rid of my diabetes for good, then I am all in.

Ok, speaking of yoga it is time for my after noon session, so I must go now but you can stay and look around the shop and I will catch you later.

P.S. Here is an exert from a final interview with Comedian Patrice O’Neal. by Carolyn Butler for Diabetes Forecast.

Tell me about that, about how things have changed?

Well, I’m starting to really feel it now—your body feels achy, your feet hurt, you start getting a little retinopathy, the neuropathy. You just start feeling the effects more.

Nowadays, my diabetes is a hell of a thing. It just affects everything—your bowel movements and sex drive and sexual everything, your feet, your eyes. I’ve got to take fiber all the time now, because my body just doesn’t do what it needs to do, so I have to help it. Some days you feel really good, and then others it weighs you down and takes everything you got to just move. But you do.

[Diabetes] just makes you old—it makes you think old—way before you should be. You think about falling and cutting yourself, about getting bit by a bug, you think about those things. When you’re clipping your toenails you got to be careful, even. I cut my foot last year and I was really scared. I could see where it didn’t heal up a little bit. When you’re young, you just heal up.

If I’m eating right and taking my medication and doing what I have to do and walking every day, I feel good. But diabetes is a thing where it can trick you—it makes you feel like you’re OK, if you’re doing the right thing. But you know you got to do the right thing diligently, so the sugar isn’t truly eating away at your body.
