Today’s Project

Ok, last week I showed you the before and after of the Living room/service area, when I had finished painting the blue accent wall and the white wall area next to it with the wall hanging and sconces. Now I want to share with you what I did today.

I painted this wall around the window, took down the ugly blinds that were on the window and hung these pretty curtains that match the blue in the wall hanging and on the accent wall.

The table and chairs we had delivered today from this store called The Dump, their furniture is far from being dump style furniture, they have a lot of quality, and custom made furniture at quite reasonable prices. We are very pleased with our purchase and are very happy that we did not have to put anything together. My husband and I have done a couple projects together and put a few pieces of furniture together over the years. But we have learned that in order for our marriage to stay intact it is best to buy whole furniture or have the delivery people put them together. As far as projects around the house go, it is best that I do them myself, like the painting. For example, it took US longer to install the curtain rods than it did for me to paint the entire wall with two coats of paint. Everything turned out perfect though and we are both very happy, so all in all it was a good day!

I hope that you enjoy this step by step process as I make this house, we bought in January 2016, our forever home!

Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions or ideas, I would love to hear from you.

Boys Life-Box Card

This is the cutest box card, it reminds me of a little boys toy box and that is exactly what I was trying to create. I custom made the envelope to match. This card will be available to purchase on my Etsy Shop within in the next few days.

For material’s and pattern please refer to my Circus Box Card. The embellishments used on this card I got from Goodwill a couple years ago in a bag of craft items. See, you never know, maybe you have an old set of stickers or scrap book items that you could use to make a little box card out of.

Gift Exchange

August/September –

I have participated in a couple of gift exchanges on other websites in the past and really enjoyed them, so I wanted to host one on my site to share the fun with all of you! I love this theme because it reminds me of the end of summer, the last hurrah before school started. The sounds, smells and excitement in the air can not be found anywhere else but at the fair.

For those of you that would like to participate in the Gift Exchange for August/September the theme is:

Fair/Circus – create something that to you represents the State/Local Fair or the Circus. It can be made out of any medium that you as an artist specialize in or feel most comfortable working with.

Please be sure to go to the Gift Exchange tab above and sign up. Deadline for sign up will be August 5, 2016 and I will send out who you are matched up with on August 8, 2016.

Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Love, Sheila

India Style Box Card

This is my favorite Box Card yet! It is my version of India Style and inspired by Elaine at Magic Boxes, you have to check out her version (the original) it is beautiful. This took me two days to complete but I just love how it turned out, so it was worth every minute. It was a piece commissioned as a birthday card/gift for a very unique girl that loves tattoos and is embarking on a new beginning in life. The gold embossed medallions and images remind me of Henna tattoos. The butterfly’s represent the rebirth or new beginning and the India Style windows I made on here remind me of a Magical Genie’s bottle.

Materials

One 12″ x 12″ sheet of card stock (I used Night of Navy from Stampin’ Up)

One 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of Gold foil paper (mine are from Stampin’ Up 12″x 12″ gold foil sheets)

One 12″x 12″ sheet of black glitter paper (mine is from last years Stampin’ Up Holiday catalog but is now discontinued) I recently found some at Hobby Lobby.

Butterflys

Embossing powder – Gold

Versa Mark embossing pad

Stamp set with floral, filigree, and medallions

Framelit, thinlit, or punches

Rhinestones

Windowsheet (Stampin’ Up)

Adhesive (I used Tombow multipurpose glue)

If you would like step by step instructions please contact me and I would be happy to send you the pattern and instructions as to how I made my “India Box”.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope this box inspires you to try making one today or at least coming back to visit me soon!

Love, Sheila

Christmas in July

Well, I have never before gotten started this early on Christmas cards and it sure was fun working on them this last weekend. Talk about getting you in the mood for the holidays! I just love Christmas and look forward to decorating every year. My husband on the other hand, doesn’t really care for all the moving around of furniture and setting up the tree but, he does like the final look when everything is done.

Ok, now a bit about these cards, first off I have to give credit where credit is due and the little deer card idea, I got from Mindy over at Bada-Bing Paper Crafting. You really should go check out her sight she has some really cute cards. The Santa Card idea, I saw it on Pinterest last year (sorry I do not remember which site I got it from exactly) and made a couple. When I was going through my holiday paper I found my first attempt sample card, and remembered how simple this card was to put together. I thought that I would make a couple of these again this year to put in my greeting card box.

Both these layouts are very versatile and can be used for just about any other type of card as well not just Christmas cards. Have fun and send me some of your ideas.

The Santa Card

One sheet of 8 1/2″X 11″ card stock (I used Very Vanilla)

One 4″ X 5 1/2″ piece of designer series paper

Stamp set for greeting

Embellishments – (I used the Santa I cut out of last years Stampin’ Up seasonal DSP and the flower I put together from another stamp set I got at Michael’s some time back)

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2″ X 11″ piece of card stock and cut it at 5 1/2″ this will give you two pieces of card stock measuring 5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″. Take one piece and score at 4 1/4″ this is the base of your card. Take the other piece and cut at 4 1/4″ this will give you two pieces measuring 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″. Take one of the 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″ pieces and cut it in half at a diagonal, this will be the piece that you use for the front of the card over the DSP (Designer Series Paper/pattern paper). Do not worry this piece does not fit correctly on the DSP, we will get to that. The other piece of 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″ card stock can be cut down to 4″ X 5 1/4″ and used as the inside insert for another card.

Alright, all of your cutting is done and now you get to stamp. Take one of the pieces of diagonally cut card stock and on the wider part of the paper kind of in the middle stamp your sentiment. Then what I like to do since all my ink and stamps are out I will stamp on the inside of the card as well, maybe an image or corrisponding sentiment.

Now we get to assemble…Take the diagonal piece of paper that we just stamped on and lay it on the front of your 4″ X 5 1/2″ DSP paper just like in the picture with the smallest end at the top. This is where it does not quite fit and that is ok, because once you get it glued down you will cut off the over hanging pieces. Once you have these two glued together and trimed then adhere them to the from of your card base. Place your embellishments on the front and you are done.

Have fun creating many different cards with this layout and please send me some pictures of what you have created, I would love to share them.

Sheila
